Accident, spill shuts down 210 Freeway

The California Highway Patrol shut down the Foothill (210) Freeway for more than eight hours Saturday to clean up an accident between a car and a tractor trailer that resulted in a gas spill and sent several people from the passenger vehicle to area hospitals with minor injuries.

Officers received a report of an overturned big rig on the westbound 210 Freeway just before 7 a.m. Saturday, Officer Jose Nunez said.

The vehicle was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived to contain the fire, he said.

Officers diverted westbound 210 traffic to the westbound Ventura (134) Freeway and the northbound Glendale (2) Freeway while the roadway was cleared and the big rig’s tanker was transferred to another vehicle, Nunez said.

The roadway reopened at 3:30 p.m., officials said.
