The Falcons’ distance medley relay team of Jimmie Jones, Neil Jones, Mike Sheridan and Brett Matejka entered its race Saturday night boasting the best time in the state. But despite a strong 10:24.84 time, the Falcons finished in 12th place in the rugged field.

Falcons senior Eric Kleinsasser took part in the event’s first-ever 5,000-meter race, finishing in 10th place in 15:21.05.

The race turned out to have one of the top performances of the entire weekend as Neuqua Valley (Illinois) runner Chris Derrick sped to a 40-second victory in 13:55.96. It was the nation’s fastest time this season and sixth best all-time.
