Genealogical Society tour

The Historical Society of the Crescenta Valley will host a private tour of the Southern California Genealogical Society, the largest private genealogical library in the southwest United States. It is located in Burbank and the tour is free and open to the public.

The event begins at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 27 at SCGS headquarters and library, 417 Irving Dr., Burbank, just north of Scott Road and south of Buena Vista, just off of Glenoaks.

Liu to address Democrats

The next meeting of the La Cañada Flintridge Democratic Club will take place on Sunday, April 27, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Lew/Castro home at 1435 Olive St., La Cañada.

The club will present speaker Carol Liu, who is a candidate for state Senate District 21, and a former representative in the state Assembly.

The club will also vote on endorsements for the races in the U.S. Congress, Congressional District 26, state Senate District 21 and the 44th Assemby District.

YMCA to hold fire safety event

The Crescenta-Cañada YMCA is holding a fire safety and prevention event this Monday at 7 p.m. at the Y. This event focuses on the senior population and caring for elders still living at home.

Arts Council announces gala

The Crescenta Valley Arts Council is holding its second annual Springtime Gala on Saturday, May 3 at the La Crescenta Presbyterian Church.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a fine art exhibit by Crescenta Valley artists and a silent auction.

Entertainment will be provided by Crescenta Valley High School’s top performing choir, the Charismatics. Local resident and renowned Flamenco dancer Jani Quintero will also perform with authentic costume and music.

At 6:30 p.m. dinner will be presented, catered by Damon’s Restaurant of Glendale and Green Street Restaurant of Pasadena, with jazz musician Sean Paxton at the piano.

Following dinner, guests will enjoy an organ concert featuring Dr. Dan Kerr, longtime La Crescenta resident and visiting professor. Dr. Kerr is the director of organ studies at Brigham Young University-Idaho.

The Springtime Gala is the primary fundraiser for Crescenta Valley Arts Council and is an opportunity for the community to enjoy an evening of local artistic talent, as well as support the arts in our community. Only 200 tickets will be sold. Those interested in attending are encouraged to purchase tickets as soon as possible.
