May 23, 2008|By Mary O’Keefe

A 38-year-old Eagle Rock man was killed in a motorcycle accident that occurred on Tuesday at 1 p.m. on Angeles Crest Highway (State Route 2).

According to a California Highway Patrol report, the man was riding his motorcycle westbound on the Angeles Crest just east of Mount Wilson-Red Box Road at an estimated speed over 55 miles per hour. For some reason the man allowed his motorcycle to veer right and cross the right roadway edge, striking the dirt and rock embankment. The man was ejected from his motorcycle, thrown up into the dirt and rock embankment and came to rest in the eastbound lane. The motorcycle slid down the north road edge, coming to rest in the eastbound lane. The man’s friend, who had been following on another motorcycle, stopped and rendered medical care. Units from CHP, U.S. Forest Service, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and L.A. County Fire responded. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
