The City Council is slated to consider a five-year, $31.9-million contract with the existing operators of the Glendale Beeline bus service.

Fairfield-based MV Transportation Inc.’s contract with the city to operate the fixed-route Beeline bus service expires on June 30, and Public Works officials are recommending their contract be renewed.

The recommendation comes after a vendor selection committee reviewed operation proposals from four firms. MV Transportation received the highest ranking and was just $18,000 off the lowest bid for the contract.

City officials, together with the selection committee, cite the company’s management team, strong employee relations, maintenance program, safety and training program and existing Glendale maintenance facility as some the factors that influenced their recommendation.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The City Council will likely hear from critics, who in the past have assailed what they say is the company’s spotty maintenance and safety record. But with its high ranking from the selection committee and integrated company infrastructure in Glendale, the council will likely approve the contract.
