The Babies “R” Us, which is in a shopping center, shares a building with a Toys “R” Us.
“By combining these two well-known and respected brands into a single location, the “R” Us family offers parents a convenient one-stop shopping experience to help them find both baby products and toys in one trip,” Babies “R” Us spokeswoman Katie Reczek said.
Toys “R” Us started its side-by-side operations with Babies “R” Us in 2006. Officials have been pleased with the results, even as many businesses face the prospect of bankruptcy and foreclosure due to the sluggish economy.
Four combined stores have opened since December in the United States, and two more are planned for Pleasanton and New Hartford, N.Y., officials said.
“Glendale has always been a great draw for us,” Reczek said. “The growth of the company has been great.”
The local success of Babies “R” Us follows a national surge for Toys “R” Us. The company has been able to turn a profit nationally by marketing to a segment of the population that’s always in demand.
“Despite the economy, parents are less likely to cut back on things for children,” Reczek said.
The side-by-side concept has also made it easier for shoppers, such as Eagle Rock resident Pablo Valdivia, who bought toys for his older children and clothes for his unborn daughter Friday.
“We used to have to run around to all these different stores, so it’s nice to have one place where we can get all our things,” he said. “It’s a nice touch.”
Babies “R” Us and Toys “R” Us is at 2905 Los Feliz Blvd.
