Letter To The Editor:

Councilmen give bad impression

June 27, 2008

I just finished reading a letter from Kris Kohlmeier (“Police presence has roots,” Community Commentary, Tuesday) regarding the removal of the resources officer from our middle school campus. My congratulations to Kohlmeier for his letter.

The recent economical woes in this country have forced cities to look at their budgets and make adjustments, and because this is a necessity, we understand some sacrifices have to be made.

Again, our city “elders” come out with the wrong decisions; let’s remove some firefighters, policemen and resource officers and also some city employees (to show we are fair) and raise the salaries of other city employees (“Balanced budget gets OK,” Wednesday).

The reason given for this last move is that we do not want to have these employees leave for other places and at the same time keep the salaries competitive for future ones.

Now, under the current economical situation, does the city think many of these employees are going to be looking for better paying jobs?

In the case of the resources officers, Councilman Ara Najarian feels that having these police officers on campus gives a bad impression, (“Residents are worried about police, fire cuts,” Monday).

Well, maybe it’s time for the citizens of this beautiful city to start thinking on removing some of our councilmen, which believe me, does give a very bad impression.
