Debbie and Bruce Hinckley hosted a reception early Thursday evening to introduce Edna Karinski, new executive director of the Glendale Community Foundation.

“The board has a four-year Strategic Plan to increase overall assets,” Karinski said. “I’m looking forward to working with the community to strengthen our goals.”

Glendale Community Foundation Board President Mike Seaton, along with the Hinckleys, greeted board members and guests.

Foundation Board of Trustees members present included Doris Boyer, Mary Ann Plumley, Mary Rough and former board member Dianne Endsley.

Generous financial donors to the Foundation made up the majority of reception guests including Scholarship Chair Gina Dayao, Lynda Burns with daughter Amanda Beck, Marilyn Gunnell, Ruth Charles, Carol Ann Burton, Shirley Darling, Charles Reinhart, Joel Youngquist, Mary Rose Grim, Cathy Zappala, Mercy Velazquez, Bob Keen, Monica and Jose Sierra, Rosalie and Ron Youra, Rita and Robert Burns and Marilyn Gunnell.

Other contributors included Alex Theatre Executive Director Barry McComb and marketing whiz Elissa Glickman, Glendale Healthy Kids Executive Director Camille Levee and Glendale FastFrame owner Vickie McConnell.

The Glendale Community Foundation’s long range goal is to grow their assets to more than $20 million to benefit people in the Verdugo area.

The Rotary Club of Glendale marked its move to the Hilton Glendale Hotel for its weekly lunches with pizazz on Thursday. Guest speaker NBC 4 weatherman Fritz Coleman set his audience straight on the weather — “I tell people what they would know if they weren’t too lazy to look out the window,” Coleman said.

Coleman kept his appreciative audience of some 60 Rotarians and their guests in stitches as he recounted his rise from $45 a night stand-up comedian to 25-year veteran, broadcasting the weather for Channel 4. It was Rotary President Makiko Nakasone who asked Coleman if he would speak before the club. He readily agreed for no monetary compensation.

Dave Harshman was recognized as “Rotarian of the Month.” He is the longest serving member, having joined Rotary in 1952. By making up Rotary meetings wherever he was in the world, he has perfect attendance, never having missed a weekly meeting in 56 years!
