Area means taking chances with nature

In response to Christopher Glass’ letter concerning the coyote problem in the surrounding areas(“Coyotes can adapt to surroundings,” Mailbag, Friday).

I love the idea of our tax-payer dollars being used for loud speakers throughout the hillsides to scare away the coyotes.

Tell me, how many would be needed and at what cost?

Why don’t, instead, you just adapt?

We have come through the Ice Age, plagues, wars and yet we are still here, just as the coyotes.

You shouldn’t have moved into an area that was so close to the coyotes’ territory.

Glass reminds me of the people residing near Bob Hope Airport in Burbank. They moved next to an airport and then complain about the noise.

You take your chances with nature.

Residents should not criticize Allen

I read with some sadness the July 24 article “Allen slammed for being irresponsible” in the Glendale News-Press.

I watched the City Council meeting on July 22 when a group of people from Glendale stood before the council and criticized Barry Allen for using the Public Records Act and threatening to sue the city regarding an alleged Brown Act violation.

It is my understanding that the city asked Allen to make all of his requests of documents under the Public Records Act.

I can see no reason why Allen should be criticized for standing up for not only his rights, but my own.

It certainly had the appearance at the July 22 council meeting that it was a well orchestrated move on the part of Mayor John Drayman. A number of those speakers were from the Montrose area and identify with Drayman.

Who is Allen?

I never knew this man until recently, when I went before the council to discuss the Indigenous Tree Ordinance and when the council gave Councilman Bob Yousefian a no-confident vote (“Councilman votes against Yousefian,” Nov. 8)

Having spent time speaking with Allen, I found that his background includes having degrees in public administration, political science and law. Also, he has been involved in private investigations for years as well as being a talk-radio personality.

The more I have spoken with Allen, the more I have found out how government works, much more so than from the people on the dais.

Several months ago, four members of the council voted no confidence against Yousefian.

I was shocked when this happened, because I felt Yousefian was an independent thinker and stood for “we the people.”
