The college finally unveiled its two newest members to the sports community in the men’s and women’s golf teams.
Some teams failed to qualify for the postseason, while those fortunate enough to make postseason appearances turned in some surprise performances.
Here’s a recap of some of the team and individual highlights that involved Glendale Community College sports from the past year:
Aug. 26, 2007 — The Glendale Community College women’s golf team, coached by Kirt Kohlmeier, played the program’s first-ever round of golf by placing seventh out of nine teams in the Santa Barbara South Coast Classic Invitational. The next day, the Vaqueros placed fourth in a six-team Western State Conference match. Glendale college finished third in the conference finals at the River Course at the Alisal in Solvang. The Vaqueros would go on to place fourth in conference (12-28).
Aug. 27 — The men’s soccer team begins its season with a 2-0 nonconference home loss to Fullerton College. The Vaqueros would finish 3-16-3 and 2-10-1 in the Western State Conference. Midfielder Artine Saginian earned all-conference second-team honors, while Aquino Alberto and Efrain Molina got honorable mention.
Aug. 29 — Glendale Community College’s women’s soccer team gives up a two-goal lead late to settle for a 2-2 nonconference home tie against El Camino Community College in a season-opening match. The Vaqueros, who finished at 9-6-7 and 6-4-5 in conference, had Claudia Orellana earn all-conference first-team honors. Olga Aguirre and Aralla De La Pena made the second team. Jacqueline Cuevas and Tatiana Aguirre received honorable mention.
