How Plants “Work” — Aug. 26 to Dec. 16, from 6 to 9 p.m. Discover how plants “work” and take the mystery out of gardening in a college-credit class offered at Descanso Gardens on Tuesdays. David Lannom, professor of horticulture at Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC), will teach basic horticulture skills and techniques for use in gardening, nursery and landscape applications, including how to plant, water and fertilize your plants. Emphasis is on propagation, cultural practices, and the study of plant relationships, structure, growth and development. The college-credit class is offered through Mt. SAC. Students must attend the first class session. Fees: Two separate payments required: $30 payable to Descanso; $75 tuition and materials fee payable to Mt. SAC. Registration requested. Floral Design I — Aug. 26 through Dec. 9 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Learn to make beautiful flower arrangements in this beginning course at Descanso Gardens offered through Mt. San Antonio College. Ray Tucker will teach different applications and principles of floral design. Topics include form, style and composition. Design of floral arrangements, wreaths, sprays, baskets, bouquets, wedding flowers and corsages are included in the labs. Students must attend the first class session.
