Weaver should not resign from council

I am responding to the question as to whether Glendale City Councilman Dave Weaver should resign over his alleged comments concerning Armenian smokers (“Weaver taken to task again,” Wednesday).

The answer: No.

It is true that Glendale’s Armenian population is indeed “substantial and influential” and, by my own observation, it is very likely that many are smokers.

It is also very likely that a proposed smoking ban would not be popular and would be opposed by that “substantial and influential” group.

Whether such a ban would be successful remains to be seen.

I personally think that it is wonderful to be “substantial and influential,” don’t you?

Instead of making a stink, they should be thankful that somebody such as Weaver has acknowledged that they are a “substantial and influential force,” and that he is afraid of them.

Personally, I think that Weaver should resign or be removed. These are for different reasons that are far move critical than this foolishness over smoking habits and ethnicity.

I was born in Glendale and raised in Burbank.

Many years ago, the Burbank city government was the butt of jokes and scorn.

Fortunately, Burbank has cleaned up its act.

Now, its Glendale’s turn to look foolish.

No wonder nothing ever gets done

Enough already. This issue concerning City Councilman Dave Weaver is the most absurd issue imaginable and to be dragged on for this long is ridiculous (“Weaver taken to task again,” Wednesday).

Weaver did nothing but speak the absolute truth.

Anybody with a set of eyes and a nose that comes into Glendale can see that Armenian men tend to be heavy smokers. It is a fact, so why should he apologize?

This has totally gotten out of control.

Let it be and get on with important issues that need to be addressed.

Councilmen Bob Yousefian and Ara Najarian need to apologize for wasting tax-payers money fighting over something so stupid.

This is just like kids fighting on a schoolyard.

Little positive about Allen’s actions

Mike Mohill calls Barry Allen the sixth councilman in his oral comments to the Glendale City Council and now in his letter to the editor (“Ineptness of council is clearly shown,” Mailbag, Wednesday).

Allen hasn’t been elected by anyone. It’s Mohill’s fantasy that Allen contributes leadership to Glendale.
