I told him what I thought about the issues of the day. He listened intently and gave me his opinions. I’ve had positive vibes toward him and I see no reason to change.

I read the criticisms by McGinnis of Schiff and I don’t feel they have any validity.

He got good marks from fellow congressmen and congresswomen, and has done nothing untoward.

He is seemingly a moderate Democrat philosophy.

However two points by McGinnis have merit.

Partisan gridlock is a problem in Congress and incumbents are generally re-elected. But this is the voters’ fault.

Congressmen and women are not appointed. They are reelected by their constituents who should pay more attention to the issues of the day.

The investigation into the hiring of partisan Republican attorneys at the Justice Department was valid.

Their appointment was a ploy by the Republican administration of President Bush — an administration that had rampant spending and a conservative president who hardly vetoed any spending bills by the Republican Congress.

McGinnis said the president does not have the total power to act on legislation but that is incorrect. He has one of the strongest in government.

That is the power of the veto. Bush chose not to use it against irresponsible spending of Congress.
