Caffeine not behind this crash

September 05, 2008|By Mary O’Keefe

A relaxed afternoon was shattered on Labor Day when a driver, who apparently hit the accelerator instead of the brake on her automobile, plowed through the window of a Starbucks in the 3700 block of Foothill Boulevard.

Glendale police, fire and paramedics responded to the accident about 2:30 p.m. on Monday afternoon.

According to Sgt. Tom Lorenz of the Glendale Police Department, six people were injured and transported to local hospitals after Caroline Pugliese, 51, of La Crescenta lost control of her red Honda and drove over the curb into customers. Four men who were sitting on patio furniture outside the coffee shop were struck and two people inside were injured from flying glass. They were transported to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. Pugliese was not injured.

Officers on the scene said the incident could have been much worse.

The incident has been ruled an accident.
