I know that we disagree on political viewpoints. But I beg you not to buy your votes with my tax dollars by bailing out these “poor, innocent homeowners.”

By the way, two of the main culprits of “greedy business practices” were the quasi-government institutions of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and the congressmen who “covered” them. Before you start cleaning up the private industry, why don’t you first start in your own House?

Verdict is worth a banquet of its own

Regarding the not guilty verdict on the banquet hall issue (“Montrose Collection serves case against city,” Oct. 4) and the fact that there will be a civil case against the city, I just have to say on behalf of countless residents of Glendale who are fed up with the city — congratulations, mazel tov, it’s about time, justice was served and will be served.

Proposition 8 is a vote for families

Please allow me to express why I will be voting “No” on Proposition 8 on Nov. 4:

Because the United States was founded on the self-evident knowledge that all men and women are created equal and that all citizens have an unalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

And marriage is a significant means to all three.

Because never before in the 232-year history of our nation has there been an amendment made to a state constitution that acts to limit the rights of a citizen. And I do not wish to go down in history as part of the first generation of Americans to do so.

Because my faith tradition teaches me that love has no bounds, and that I should treat others as I would have them treat me.

Because the half-dozen gay and lesbian couples in my church, whom I count as dear friends, have demonstrated for me some of the healthiest long-term, committed relationships I have ever known.

Because of the significant difference it has made to the children, parents and siblings of these gay and lesbian couples that their parents, children or family members were finally able (after too many years) to get married this summer.

But mostly, because my experience being married for 26 years and a parent for 16 years has shown me that love makes a family.

On Nov. 4, I will choose to stand on the side of love, and will vote “No” on Proposition 8.
