I believe that churches have a tax-exempt status based on our Constitution’s doctrine of separation of church and state. They are not supposed to be involved in politics and certainly not advocating one position over another.

This needs to stop immediately. If there is some loophole that allows this, it needs to be closed immediately. The bottom line is that faith-based organizations have no business being involved in the formation of government policies, particularly where these groups seek to discriminate based on their religious beliefs.

I do not support writing discrimination into our state constitution. I strongly support a no on 8 vote.

It was nice to finally hear from an expert, retired fire Capt. Marvin Owen (“Fires need a full response team,” Mailbag, Tuesday).

It seems the same small group of misinformed residents whine and complain about things they have no clue about.

I suspect letter writer Carole Weling (“Fire Department critic is accurate,” Mailbag, Oct. 10) has no background other than typing on her computer as far as fire science goes

Researching Bruce Philpott shows he has been trying to sell his so-called new model for the fire service all over the state, its refreshing to see that the experts see him for what he is: a disgruntled ex policeman who more than likely could not be a real fireman.
