On The Town:

Fashionable event benefits women

October 22, 2008|By RUTH SOWBY

Women’s health issues were again front and center Sunday at the Glendale Galleria.

The Macy’s Court was decked out in pink with luncheon tables and fashion ramps for “Life. Inspiration. Fashion. Elegance.” The social, luncheon and fashion show was co-hosted by the Guild at Glendale Adventist Medical Center and the Glendale Galleria. Close to 150 supporters showed up for an elegant afternoon.

“Fashion Guy” and Glendale native Lawrence Zarian, son of former Glendale Mayor Larry Zarian, was guest host of the charity event, featuring fall fashions from Macy’s.

Glendale residents enjoying the duds were Realtor extraordinaire Fran Buchanan, Camille Levee, Catherine Yesayan, Lisa Vigil and daughter Shannon Vigil, 12. The Glendale Soroptimists were out in force including President Sandy Shultz, First Vice President Lisa McMurray and Second Vice President Sandy Doughty. From La Cañada Flintridge was Norma White, co-secretary of the Guild.

The fashion show was followed by a live auction emceed by “Hizoner” Larry Zarian with prizes including a trip to Las Vegas, a $500 Chanel gift basket and a $250 shopping spree.

All proceeds will benefit Glendale Adventist Medical Center’s Breast Cancer and Pediatric Emergency Services.

Later in the day, the Lanterman House museum in La Cañada Flintridge was the backdrop for oil paintings by local artists with the Foothill Artists League. The plein air landscapes and studio paintings on display under vine-covered porches were all available for purchase at the afternoon reception.

Guests had the opportunity to meet the artists, who included Valery Moorhead, Margot Lennartz, Gail Martin, Desdy Baggott, Karen Sill, Kadija Behary, Millie Page, Jean Tannhauser, Karen Horn and Barbara Trevino.

Former U.S. Rep. Carlos Moorhead was also on hand to support his artistic wife, Valery.

Docents were more than willing to show guests through the historic Lanterman House on Encinas Drive.

The place to rub elbows with women of influence was the eighth annual Women’s Health Conference sponsored by the Wellness Community of the Foothills.

A lavish breakfast with plenty of opportunity to network was Friday at the Pasadena Hilton. The theme, “Knowledge is Power,” was evident in the turnout of impressive, local women — all desirous of learning more about women’s health.
