The victory keeps the Falcons (13-5, 9-2 in league) in second place in league behind Arcadia.
“We have been finishing third or fourth in league the last few years,” said Crescenta Valley Coach Jennifer Ryan, whose squad was fourth in 2007. “So, it’s nice to be among the top teams in league.”
Ryan said her team has steadily improved since the beginning of the season. She is hoping that improvement will continue.
“We just want to continue to stay motivated,” she said. “We want to keep up that motivation going for the rest of league, and hopefully carry that on to CIF.”
For Burbank (9-7, 6-5), it is still fighting to stay in the playoff hunt.
“We haven’t made it to the playoffs in six or seven years, so we are still hoping that we are going to be able to do that this season,” said Bulldogs Coach Sara Brown, whose squad just missed the postseason in 2007 after a fifth-place showing.
“We just have to put this loss behind us and concentrate for our next league match Thursday against Hoover.”
With the match tied in games at 1, the Falcons were able to jump out in front of the Bulldogs with early leads in the third and fourth games.
Leading that charge for Crescenta Valley was junior outside hitter Tiffany Wilcox, who finished with nine kills.
In the third game, Burbank fell behind, 6-1, and had to claw its way back.
“We made too many mistakes [Tuesday] and we got too far behind too many times,” Brown said. “We were also too up and down with our play.”
In the third game, the Bulldogs battled back to take a 22-21 lead on a kill by Natalie Burns. After relinquishing the lead, Burbank was able to tie the score at 24 on a kill by Iris Mora.
However, two consecutive kills by Wilcox and Rachel Fisher gave Crescenta Valley the game.
Mora had 10 kills and Burns added eight for the Bulldogs.
