Attempted kidnapping in Montrose

     Crescenta Valley Sheriff detectives are warning parents of an attempted kidnapping in Montrose. A suspect, described as a 30 to 40-year-old Hispanic with short spiked black hair, dark eyes, a slight accent with crooked and stained teeth, attempted to order a 10-year-old girl into his vehicle.

     According to Det. Todd Sams, the girl was playing in front of an apartment building in the 2300 block of Del Mar Road with several friends.

     “At some point, the friends went into the apartment complex for a few minutes, leaving the girl alone,” Sams said.

     It was then that the suspect drove up to her. He was driving a large, older four door vehicle that was white, with the passenger door painted black.

     “He opened the passenger door and demanded she get into the car,” Sams said.

When the suspect turned off the vehicle, the girl ran and hid until the suspect started up the vehicle’s engine. She then bolted out and ran to her apartment building across the street.

The suspect made a U-turn and drove south on Del Mar Road toward Montrose Avenue. Sams praised the young girl for keeping her head during the incident and for helping the investigation. The girl told him she had taken a course on what to do through Girl Scouts.

At the time of the incident, the suspect was wearing a blue warm-up type jacket, a dirty white T-shirt, jeans and dirty dark boots. The vehicle had a blue and white California plate that contained “KL13” in unknown sequence.
