Crescenta Valley Town Council Meeting Preview

November 20, 2008

ON THE AGENDA

The following items will be discussed at tonight’s Crescenta Valley Town Council meeting

The Crescenta Valley Town Council plans to review a letter it wrote to Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich asking for increased safety measures at crosswalks near Rosemont Middle School.

The request follows the Oct. 29 death of Meri Nalbandyan, an 11-year-old who was fatally struck by a car driving through a crosswalk near Toll Middle School.

Rosemont does not currently have any crossing guards, per Glendale Unified School District policy, which the town council hopes to change with action from Antonovich, Mayor Grace Andrus said.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The town council is slated to vote on the letter, which Andrus said has already been vetted by other members.

Members of the Election & Nominating Committee plan to address several changes that could be made to the town council’s voting process.

Some have complained that the nominating process is too short, disallowing enough quality time to hear from candidates vying for office.

Proposals include moving a candidate’s forum from October to September and changing the election calendar to get absentee ballots out to voters sooner.

WHAT TO EXPECT

No vote is required on this item, but council members are slated to discuss various election options.
