Ten Years Ago

The Joan Knickelbein Memorial Scholarship was established by the Glendale Association of Realtors and Glendale College Foundation to support the educational pursuits of a Glendale Community College student. Knickelbein, a La Crescenta resident who had recently passed away, was a real estate agent who was quite active in community affairs.

Twenty Years Ago

Mt. Olive Lutheran Church named Kathlyn “Kate” Grabenstein of Pasadena as the new organist-choir director, replacing Jonathan Steel, who was moving out of the area.

Thirty Years Ago

Foothill area Realtors, including Vee Bunt of La Crescenta, banded together at a leadership conference of the California Association of Realtors to spearhead a campaign to qualify for the state ballot an initiative written by Paul Gann to put a lid on government spending. The effort, which came on the heels of the passage of Prop 13, was dubbed, “Spirit of 13.”

Forty Years Ago

The Crescenta-Cañada Art Association held its annual Christmas dinner-dance in the Versailles Room at Pikes Verdugo Oaks, where Santa Claus made a special pre-holiday appearance.

Fifty Years Ago

Montrose residents reported snowflakes falling on the community on Nov. 15, 1958. Overnight lows dipped into the 20s in the Foothills, which experienced very balmy weather just the week before.
