StarPoint tenants settle

November 28, 2008

A long running battle between some La Crescenta residents and a Beverly Hills firm over reconstruction of a local apartment complex may have come to an end with a court ruling on damages for some tenants.

Commissioner Steven Monette has awarded damages ranging from $2,825 to $3,523 to seven tenants and former tenants against StarPoint Properties over treatment received after the company bought and renovated an apartment complex on Valderas Drive.

A number of tenants went to the city last year to complain that the company was making repairs on the property without any regard as to how the tenants were treated.

Glendale lawyers did pursue a complaint against the company for improper evictions, which was dropped after the company paid $30,000 in relocation fees.

The latest settlement involved a different group of plaintiffs, each of whom was seeking $7,500, the maximum allowed under small claims law.
