Downtown Dash slotted for March

December 26, 2008

The Glendale Merchant’s Association will host their second annual Downtown Dash, a 5K run/walk to benefit Glendale Adventist Medical Center’s Stroke Services for the community. The event takes place on Sunday, March 8 and will start in front of the Alex Theatre at 216 N. Brand Blvd. in Glendale.

The run will go through the new Americana at Brand.

Registration and the Dash Healthy Living Expo will open at 7 a.m. the day of the event and opening ceremonies begin at 8 a.m. and will include an aerobic warm-up. More than 1,000 people attended Downtown Dash last year and Glendale Adventist Medical Center representatives expect many more to participate this year.

Online registration is encouraged; visit the website at www.glendaleDowntownDash.org.

Stroke is the nation’s number three cause of death and the leading cause of long-term disability; it is responsible for one out of every 14 deaths, killing more than 160,000 people every year.

“The good news is, stroke is a preventable disease and treatments are available,” said Lance Lee, MD, medical director of the Stroke Center at Glendale Adventist. “If you do have a stroke, seeking immediate treatment at a facility specially trained to diagnose and treat stroke can help improve your chances of surviving one and minimize possible disabilities.”

Since the 2008 Downtown Dash, Glendale Adventist became certified as the first primary stroke center in the San Fernando Valley.

Due to community involvement, Downtown Dash raises money to help educate the community on stroke awareness and enhance treatment options for stroke patients.

The individual registration fee for the 5K run/walk is $25.
