On Friday, Lawler praised the proposed changes.

“So many people are intimidated by the whole Robert’s Rules thing that they aren’t comfortable speaking in front of the Town Council,” he said of the parliamentary rules. “The idea of a discussion-based forum is going to encourage more participation.”

Pierce maintained that the proposed changes are less a reaction to outside criticism and more a reflection of his personality and prerogative to change as he sees fit.

“Grace did a wonderful job of leading the council,” he said. “But when you have a change of leadership, you can make some changes.”

The executive team must adopt the new changes, and Pierce has already lined up at least one speaker to dish out the latest on a very visible project in the region.

On Jan. 8, a representative from Walgreens is slated to discuss the ongoing construction on Foothill Boulevard after doubts percolated this week that the drugstore giant would not be able to complete its project in north Glendale.

Pierce also said the group will ask Glendale Planning Director Hassan Haghani to talk about development issues on Foothill Boulevard, all with the aim of giving residents in the unincorporated section of La Crescenta a wider voice and understanding of their neighborhood.

“It’s not just a goal,” he said.

“It’s going to happen.”
