Day On HOPE comes to Glendale

January 21, 2009|By Karina Hall

Over 230 volunteers from HOPE worldwide Los Angeles came together in Glendale this past Saturday to commemorate the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday with a day of service.  The annual event titled "LA Day On HOPE" attracts more than 3,000 volunteers spread out across the Southern California region to assist in this day of service.  This year, HOPE worldwide Los Angeles teamed up with the City of Glendale Neighborhood Services to participate in their Helping Hands program, which helps select residents who have had their properties cited move toward compliance by performing exterior maintenance and landscaping duties.

Beginning at 6:00am volunteers met at Verdugo Park for opening ceremonies and then dispersed to assist at four different residences, in addition to helping prepare the site of a new Glendale Community Garden.  The event included a lunch rally featuring music by the local LA Church of Christ band and a performance by its Teen Ministry.

Members of the Committee for a Clean & Beautiful Glendale were also in attendance presenting HOPE worldwide with a Certificate of Appreciation.
