Kim said he would get back to the council with a report on hedge trimming.

Pierce also asked newly installed Councilman Steve Goldsworthy, who has taken on the chairmanship of the council’s streets and roads committee, to look into the matter. “We need to prevent pedestrians from going into that area without the hedges trimmed,” Pierce said.

Planned parking at the new library also was discussed, with some concerns about placement of handicapped parking being at an inconvenient distance from the entrance to the library, and some residents worried about possible traffic issues that could occur with the smaller upper level parking area. However, Kim said, that area is a staff parking lot and shouldn’t have enough traffic to generate problems.

The upper parking level also will have handicapped parking stalls, which should be close to the second-floor entrance, Raghavachary said.

After two hours of community updates and presentations, much of the audience had left and the council continued with its regular business, such as committee reports, which included an in-depth legislative report from Councilwoman Grace Andrus concerning Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s recent state of the state address, a report on the emergency preparedness committee by alternate Councilmember Joyce Lauterback, an update on the recently added clean and green committee by Pierce, as well as reports from each of the other council members.
