New board for local Foundation
The Community Foundation of the Verdugos, formerly the Glendale Community Foundation, has elected Montrose resident Michael Velazquez, of Velazquez & Associates, as its 2009-’10 president. Vice president is Michael Deaktor, an attorney with Melby & Anderson, LLP. Stephen Bache, of Bache Capital Management is the new CFO, and Bob Knauf, of Arroyo Insurance, has taken on the office of secretary.
“It is my distinct pleasure to serve as president of the Community Foundation of the Verdugos,” stated Velazquez. “Collectively, this community is steeped in a rich and romantic history with a tradition of service and philanthropy that is unparalleled. Our goal is to create a more visible footprint in the Foothills area. Many residents in the Verdugo area have no idea that we have been providing services to them for over five decades.” Velazquez has run his own accountancy and professional services firm since 1992 and has served on the Board of the American Association of Hispanic CPA’s, Junior Achievement, and the Desi Geestman Foundation. Velazquez enjoys writing and has authored professional articles over the years along with making radio and television broadcast appearances; he enjoys public speaking and has acted as presenter at numerous professional and area nonprofit events.
