Zarian to host City Hall activist

Regular City Hall activist Herbert Molano is scheduled to appear live Thursday on “The Larry Zarian Show.”

Molano, who has been unrelenting in his calls for greater transparency and performance measures at City Hall, is expected to defend his recent assertions that the city budget is disproportionate to the population.

Zarian said he would also press Molano on recent “personal attacks” on various elected officials heading into the main April 7 election campaign season.

Despite Molano’s years of chiding the City Council, his assertions have largely fallen on deaf ears and, at times, led to public feuds with some on the dais.

The show airs at 7 p.m. Thursday on Channel 280. The live call-in number is (818) 547-3668.

YMCA campaigns for scholarships

YMCA of Glendale officials have kicked off the 2009 Pass It On Campaign, a fundraising effort to increase support for the scholarship fund.

The fund covers the cost of programs for children and families who otherwise might not be able to afford YMCA programs such as child care, day camp and programs for at-risk youth.

The YMCA’s goal is to raise $100,000, said Chief Executive John Thomas.

The YMCA provides an opportunity for youngsters and adults to participate in programs such as day camp, child care, youth sports, water safety, before- and after-school care, and summer camp.

Children and families in the community need and deserve the family-oriented programs and services the YMCA can provide, Chairman Greg Grande said.

Last year, the volunteers of the YMCA of Glendale support campaign raised $130,000, which allowed 1,300 youngsters and families to join programs.
