GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Buena 63, Glendale 35: The Nitros saw their season conclude with a road loss against the second-seeded Bulldogs on Thursday night in a CIF Southern Section Division II-AA first-round game.

Glendale (12-14) got 11 points apiece from Lidia Rivas and Anna Shahinian, but couldn’t overcome powerhouse Buena (22-6).

The Nitros held a 15-14 lead after the first quarter before Buena, which won the Channel League championship, regrouped to take a 30-22 halftime lead.

“I thought we were able to get a little positive motivation after [building the lead in] the first quarter,” Glendale Coach Tania Adary said. “We showed we were able to compete, but Buena normally comes on strong in the second half.”

Marlow Tomasian and Serah Mirzaeian contributed five points apiece for Glendale, which finished fifth in the Pacific League and received an at-large berth.

Thacher 60, Glendale Adventist Academy 28: Michelle Eclar finished with a team-high 11 points for the visiting Cougars, who fell to the 15th-seeded Toads in a CIF Southern Section Division VI-AA first-round contest Thursday night.

Clarissa David contributed eight points for Glendale Adventist (6-10, 6-7 in the Westside League for fourth place). Gillie Nielson collected four points for the Cougars, who trailed, 18-10, at halftime.

“We were in it, but they just got a big lead in the end,” Glendale Adventist Coach Cherene Toscano said.

MEN’S TENNIS

Glendale Community College 5, Santa Barbara City College 4: The visiting Vaqueros pulled off their biggest win of the season Thursday in a key Western State Conference match. Marko Gortinski and Paul Nagapetyan worked together to pick up a doubles win and help the Vaqueros improve to 5-1 and 2-0 in the conference. Rony Yeghnazary, Joet Tresierras, Nagapetyan and Gortinski recorded singles victories.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Glendale Community College 6, Santa Barbara City College 3: Host Glendale college picked up five singles wins Thursday in its Western State Conference opener. Meldia Hacopian, Monique Palmera, Sarah Aguilar, Minelli Ebrahimi and Armine Balayan won singles sets for the Vaqueros (6-3). Aguilar and Ebrahimi won in doubles.
