It was a hectic day last Saturday for those in the Crescenta Valley High Instrumental Music Department.

The day began with a car wash fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. complete with dozens of student and parent volunteers.

The car wash was held at the Crescenta Valley High School staff parking lot at Ramsdell and Community avenues. The money raised went toward the purchase of new uniforms and instruments.

That evening, the CVHS Jazz Band performed for the third annual Big Band Swing Dance, which took place inside the cafeteria.

Guests consisted of students, friends, family, and others from the community, with all proceeds going toward the music department.

Part of the festivities included brief swing dance lessons from Gary Bates, a community member well known for his accomplished dancing skills.

The cafeteria floor filled with couples and friends of all ages, either discovering a “new” beat or moving to a familiar swing number, all performed live by the jazz band.
