Vote Republican? He doesn’t think so

After I finished reading Jim Chase’s article, “Growing up can be so taxing,” [Feb. 13], I couldn’t believe he ended the article by the statement: Vote Republican.

His article [had] kept my interest and I was looking forward to an intelligent ending. You mean to tell me that there are no Republican politicians who don’t pay their fair share of taxes? Let’s see, in the last 40 years we have had 28 years with a Republican president. Look at the results, especially the last eight years.

Maybe he should tell his son where some of the tax money goes to like schools, roads, libraries, police and firemen, etc. and even unnecessary wars.

Nadya Suleman is over the line

Bravo to city editor Robin Goldsworthy for her article about Nadya Suleman and illegal immigrants costing taxpayers [Feb. 13]. It was right on.

I get furious when I see tax money wasted and especially on people who don’t deserve it. Nadya has had 14 children so that she will always have playmates and has made sure that she doesn’t have to work too hard to take care of them. Let the government take care of them is her intention.

I also think it’s a great idea to treat Octo-mom’s doctor as the father and make him pay child support until the children are 18. Maybe he’ll think twice before acting so irresponsibly again.

Thank you, too, for being brave enough to mention the “not so PC” subject of illegal immigrants. As a teacher in an LAUSD school, I see first-hand the tremendous expense we are bearing to subsidize people who have no regard for our laws. They are illegal and yet we treat them better than we treat our own citizens. I have never minded paying taxes to bear the expenses of a better life for all, but I get boiling mad when I see government using my money on people who are out to scam the us, especially when we are in such a financial crisis.

Thank you to her for being brave enough to say it!

Claims illegals are not the problem

Columnist Robin Goldsworthy recently wrote that one way to balance the budget would be to “address illegal immigrants” and the costs they generate in social services. In fact, undocumented immigrants pay much more in taxes, including social security taxes that they will never benefit from, than they receive in social services.
