Glendale Panthers rally for victory

The Glendale Panthers got 23 points and four rebounds from Michael Armstead to earn a 50-41 come-from-behind victory against La Cañada on Saturday. The Panthers led by four at the half but La Canada caught them and took an eight-point lead going into the fourth quarter before they outscored the Spartans by 17 points in the final quarter.

“Our guys are playing hard and improving every game,” Glendale Coach Mike Hailey said. “It’s just a matter of playing consistent ball that will get us into the playoffs.”

Steve Arakelyan collected eight points and four rebounds for Glendale, which got seven points from Isaiah Everett. Alex Chirishyan notched three points, nine boards and three steals for the Panthers.

The Panthers will next face the Valley Jaguars at 4 p.m. Saturday at Hoover High.

Little League season set to kick off

Jewel City/Jewish War Veterans will hold its opening day Saturday at Brand Park. The ceremonies will start at 10:00 a.m. with a league parade, a ceremonial first pitch by Glendale Mayor John Drayman, followed by a minor league game 11:30 and a major league game at 2 p.m.
