At that time, Najarian was on the Traffic and Transportation Commission. He took the lead in denying traffic calming, voted against it and spoke before the City Council against traffic calming measures. I can say without rebuttal that Najarian lacked total sensitivity to the issue and the plight in our lovely neighborhood. Najarian’s current traffic “plan” has another name — it is called “politics,” and Glendale voters best proceed with caution.
The councilman who spoke, supported and guided us through what gains we made to calm traffic was Frank Quintero. Quintero was there for us on the issue of neighborhood protection each and every step of the way. He did not give lip service to the issue. He gave of his time and expertise for years. The City Council passed our traffic-calming measures, thanks to the leadership of Quintero.
The grandstanding by Najarian being done now is pure politics to hold himself, and he alone, for the model and leader to solve traffic problems in the city. It is a fact certain that Najarian has known about the serious ongoing traffic problems in Glendale for at least 15 years. It is only when there is a pending election that he gives any attention to the problem. Najarian is trying to have a positive political light shine on him, and him alone. His position of “look at me” was clear when his proposal was not shared with others on the council before he spoke. Once again, Najarian has the old “foot in the mouth” problem. The voters are looking at Najarian, and we are all hoping that we see the back of him in the next election.
