Twilight Night: Star Gazers and Planet Hunters — April 3, the Museum opens its door from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Award-winning planetary astronomer Dr. Mike Brown, the man responsible for the reclassification of Pluto to “dwarf planet,” is the guest of honor at Kidspace Children’s Museum’s first Twilight Night event of 2009, admission is $5.

Brown will be hosting two astronomy presentations for kids and families, taking guests on a tour of the night sky at the Kidspace Star Station Planetarium. Afterward, Brown will move to the outdoor amphitheater for a reading from “The Planet Hunter: The Story Behind What Happened to Pluto,” a children’s book chronicling his life and scientific discoveries.

Kidspace is open 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and is located at 480 N. Arroyo Blvd. in Pasadena’s Brookside Park. Free parking is available in Rose Bowl Parking Lot I. For information and calendar of events, visit online www.kidspacemuseum.org.

CLASSES

Square Dance Class — Thursdays from 7:30 – 9 p.m. A weekly Thursday night beginner’s class and workshop for those who would like to brush up on their square dancing steps, presented by Set in Step Square Dance Club, taught at the La Cañada Community Center, 4469 Chevy Chase, La Cañada. Ron Durkee is the professional caller. The dress is casual, and the price is $5 a lesson. To have a partner is suggested but singles are welcome also. For information call (818) 790-6175.

CLUBS

The Leisure Club of La Cañada Flintridge — Meets the first Friday of each month at 1 p.m. The Club is dedicated to enhancing the lives of seniors in the La Cañada and surrounding areas. The once a month meeting includes entertainment and refreshments. The bridge club meets weekly to play. Each month the club organizes a day trip to interesting locales and/or activities such as The Getty Museum, the Palm Springs Follies, the Laguna Pageant of the Masters and Solvang, as examples. Meetings are held in the All-Purpose Room of the Crescenta-Cañada YMCA, 1930 Foothill Blvd., in La Cañada.
