I will encourage and support the use of new technology to bring in additional revenue for our college. We live in an era of electronic communication and I am a big supporter of online courses for subjects that lend themselves to learning in this medium. I understand fully that we need to assess this carefully to assure that a high level of learning is accomplished. Also critical are the articulation agreements with four-year universities. We need our students to get full credit from their transfer institution for their online course. There are opportunities in the area of online learning that may create a new revenue stream for our college, and it is an area that needs to be pursued. In addition to the revenue, this technology will provide greater flexibility to a student population that is increasingly a working population. Another benefit is for the environment, as online courses do not require our students to travel to the college.

I believe that we should work quickly and act in a proactive manner with our Workforce Investment Board and identify all partnership opportunities that will help us maximize the funding available in the federal stimulus package.

We should study and learn what curriculum opportunities exist as a result of the growing business in Asia and India and be ready to satisfy this demand.

I will continue to be an ambassador for the college and in this way support the foundation's efforts to raise funds.

What should Glendale Community College do to better meet the growing student demand for classes?

I previously mentioned that staff is embarking on an initiative to utilize as much of the campus as possible for instructional purposes. Administrative areas will be utilized at a higher rate in order to make space for additional classrooms wherever possible. Class schedules are continually being reviewed for optimization.

Working with our Professional Development Center, we should increase our outreach to major employers in the area and identify opportunities for additional on-site training that can also be offered to students beyond their employees.

Online courses can provide our students with more choices in a flexible and an environmentally friendly medium.

Does the college adequately serve the educational needs of its community? How can it improve?
