CITY HONORS ‘I LOVE MY NEIGHBORHOOD’ ARTISTS

The city of Glendale recognized the “I Love My Neighborhood” Poster Contest winners on April 1 at the Glendale Civic Auditorium. This year’s theme was “Let’s Make Glendale Shine in 2009.”

The grand-prize winner was Michelle Tahmasian, a third-grader from Balboa Elementary School.

During the event, First Lutheran Elementary School’s sixth-grade class gave a performance of a pollution prevention song they wrote to the tune of “Yankee Doodle” titled “Make Glendale Shine.”

The Mark Doyle Outstanding Education award was presented to First Lutheran Elementary for the best implementation of the poster contest.

The contest receives nearly 10,000 entries each year after Neighborhood Services and the Committee for a Clean & Beautiful Glendale distributes paper and suggested lessons and activities to all public and private schools in Glendale.

The 54 finalists are Bijan Abolmoluki, Gail Alima, Theresa Papikian, Jared Alvarez, Kelsey Boller, Peyton Hause, Susana Hernandez, Camila Capano, Erica Jayasundera, Brittany Huynh, Vanessa Young, Natalie Lai, Liam Graham, Aaron Markabil, Julianna Caballero, Natalie Bashian, Angela Karadolian, Polin Yousefi, Jinhee Kim, Fiona Bishop and Caleb Lee.

FAMILY WELCOMES HOME NEW SON

Joshua and Monica Peplow of Montrose had a son, Scott Joshua Peplow, at 9:21 p.m. on March 23 at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena. He weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces.

STUDENT MAKES DEAN’S LIST AT EASTERN SCHOOL

Joon Sang Park, the son of Seung Hye Hahn of Glendale, has been named to the winter term dean’s list at Choate Rosemary Hall in Connecticut.

RESIDENT NAMED OUTSTANDING MEMBER

Glendale resident Josephine Yadegar was honored as the 2009 Outstanding Member of the Gamma Lamba chapter of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.

She is co-president of the Glendale-La Crescenta chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma’s international organization for women educators. Yadegar has taught first grade at San Pascual Elementary School in the Los Angeles Unified School District for 20 years.
