The scope of work varies at each site, but generally includes new pavement, new curbs and gutters, sidewalk reconstruction, some street widening and improved drainage.
Some new landscaping will also be required, according to the plans.
Funding for the work has already been allocated under the city’s Capital Improvement Plan.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The City Council will likely approve the plan since any contract to do the work must still come back for review.
CURB REPAIRS ON GLENWOOD
Public Works officials will recommend approving an $867,000 contract with a Sun Valley firm to reconstruct curbs, sidewalks and ramps that have been damaged by tree roots along Glenwood Road near Concord Street.
The project includes the construction of a 4-foot-wide median along Concord from Virginia Avenue to Concord Street with a 3-foot-high wrought iron fence.
At mid-block, the roadway would also get advanced cross walk signage.
All of the improvements are part of the ongoing effort to upgrade the city’s streets to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The council will likely approve the contract, given that the scope of work has already been adopted. Funding has also been allocated as part of the city’s Sidewalk Repair Program.
SLURRY SEAL ON STREETS
The City Council will consider approving plans to resurface several city streets and parking lots at an estimated cost of up to $1.6 million.
Public Works officials are seeking permission to solicit bids on the project, which would include the resurfacing of two lots and an access road in Verdugo Park, along with more than a dozen streets in the far north Glendale annex and Chevy Chase canyon.
Should the project be approved, officials expect work to be completed in November.
