The Firm, URS Corporation Americas, has also performed noise studies and geotechnical analysis above and beyond the original scope of work called for in the contract.
Under the terms of the grant funding, the city fronts the money for expenses, and then is reimbursed by the California Department of Transportation.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The council will likely approve the expenditure since it is backed by the state grant and needed to continue progress on the bridge.
FLOWER STREET WORK
Public Works officials on Tuesday will seek an additional $58,000 for ongoing improvements to the Flower Street extension project, which is part of the larger restructuring of freeway access to and from the San Fernando Road corridor.
The money would be added to an original $650,000 consulting contract with AECOM, an architectural and engineering firm, to review plans for widening Flower Street.
Additional work is needed to prepare legal descriptions of right-of-ways and access designations for the restructured street, according to a city report.
WHAT TO EXPECT
As with the Fairmont bridge project, the City Council will likely approve the additional expenditure since, under the terms of the project’s state and county grants, the city fronts the initial money before being reimbursed.
LIBRARY COLLECTIONS
The City Council on Tuesday will consider extending a contract with a fee collection agency for the city’s library services.
Since 1998, the agency, Unique Management Systems, has collected $194,000 in late fees for the Glendale Public Library System. Of that amount, $46,250 has gone to the collection agency, with the rest being used by library services to replace materials.
Since payments to Unique Management Systems are expected to exceed $50,000 this year — past the authorization of the city manager’s office — library officials must now seek City Council permission to extend the contract.
In addition to the cash fees, Unique Management has also secured the return of $464,631 worth of library materials, according to a city report.
