Baby-sitting classes offered for youth

The Verdugo Hills Hospital Beginnings Family Education Program offers baby-sitting classes designed for 11- to 15-year-olds.

The baby-sitting class is an interactive course that provides instruction on infant/child CPR, basic first aid, home/auto safety, accident prevention, telephone skills, safety tips, when to call 911, poison control, fire/earthquake plans and other child care advice.

The classes are from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. May 30 and June 27 at the hospital, 1812 Verdugo Blvd., in the Council Room on the fourth floor. Fee is $35 per person. Reservations are required and can be made by calling Teri Rice at (818) 952-2272.

Diamond Award winners honored

The winners of the 2009 Diamond Awards have been announced, and a reception in their honor will be from 6 to 8 p.m. May 14 at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 800 N. Central Ave., Glendale.

Those being recognized are Craig Kupka, Lifetime Achievement; Samvel Hambardzumyan, artist; Stepping Stone Players, arts organization; and Ruth Anson Sowby, community partner — Individual.
