Aaarrr! Fathers put on a pirate show

Fathers Follies once again grace Glendale’s social scene. Presented by the fathers of Verdugo Woodlands PTA, “Calvin of the Caribbean,” a wacky pirate adventure, features an all-dad cast performing at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday in the Glendale High School Auditorium.

Advanced sale tickets are $7 at Verdugo Woodlands’ office; $8 at the door.

Delicious food selections beckon at “Taste of Downtown Glendale” on May 13. As attendees stroll through participating restaurants, proceeds support Glendale Healthy Kids. For tickets, call Shelley Harrison at (213) 446-8127.

A free Parent University on Internet safety is at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Wilson Middle School.

PTSA President Megan Schowengerdt announced newly installed officers Dorothy Canlas, Dawn Landery, Vilma Evangelista, Karen Spencer and incoming President Sydney Swainston.

WILSON MIDDLE

Wilson’s PTSA and ASB are sponsoring a Family Movie Night on Friday. The showing of “Twilight,” at twilight on the athletic field, is sure to be a hit. The cost is $5 for admission, and snacks will be available for purchase. PTSA President Sydney Swainston welcomes the new PTSA officers who will be officially installed at the next PTSA meeting at 6 p.m. May 12 at the home of Karen Veloz.

COLLEGE VIEW SCHOOL

It’s Teacher Appreciation Week, and PTA President Andrea Crissman vouches, “We have a spectacular group of teachers, aides and therapists. Their skill, patience and dedication help our students make progress, and it takes a really special person to be able to do that.”

CERRITOS ELEMENTARY

Students led by second-grade teachers Susie MacFarlane and Kathleen Elliott have gotten the Cerritos’ garden ready for planting. With the help of seven other classes, parents, custodians, grounds staff and community members, an area in the school’s courtyard is awaiting vegetables and flowers. This is part of a $2,500 Garden Grant to fund soil, tools, plants, seeds, stepping stones, wheel barrels and other curriculum materials.
