Rainfall figures should match up

Isn’t 2006 the year we almost broke the record for an enormous rainfall? If it was, then that is the worst year to choose, as my sprinklers were shut off for four months. Couldn’t we use last year that had a much more comparable amount of rain to this year?

Water reduction proposal is unfair

The proposal by Glendale Water & Power to arbitrarily make mandatory a reduction of 10% of water usage is not equitable.

Let us take that magical year of 2006, as suggested. Many of those reading this letter know there are hundreds and maybe thousands of water users in the city that were not in Glendale in 2006. What will be their standard? What will be their benchmark for usage?

There have been many single homes leveled to make way for multiple housing dwellings since 2006. There has been a new huge hotel water user added to the consumers, as well as many new businesses. Many apartment users that were single now have multiple users in the same unit. Just how is Glendale Water & Power going to make this mandatory 10% reduction equitable? How is the utility going to know who is wasting and who is conserving?

The answer is they cannot make that judgment without knowing the history of use of the water meter and that eliminates all newcomers and/or changes after 2006. Is it the intention of Glendale Water & Power to give these users a “pass” since their water usage history is unknown?

The city must apply any mandatory reduction in a fair and equitable manner. An automatic 10% reduction is not it.

Deborah Dentler’s letter (“We ought to pull together on water,” May 1) had many suggestions.

However, the suggestions are nothing more than generalities. In my own case, I think that I have done better with my water usage. I do not live in the city two days of the week; I do not have a water hog dishwasher to wait to get full; I water my lawn on a hand timer so I know that the water being used is accurate when I water two days a week as is suggested; I rarely if ever use my garbage disposal as most everyone knows it is nothing more than a facility to clog my plumbing pipes; I take very short showers, so I have no bathwater to throw on my thirsty plants. I could go on and on, but my point is made.
