Glendale isn’t safe to drive in

I have lived in Glendale for more than 20 years and love this city.

I read the various letters in the Glendale News-Press regarding our reckless drivers, but I finally have to write to say that it is not safe to drive in Glendale!

In the past month or so I have personally witnessed: a driver blowing a stop sign at Mountain Street and Cordova Avenue in the wrong lane and passing three cars that he felt were too slow; a car run a red light at Brand Boulevard and almost take out two or three cars coming off the freeway; two cars playing tag on Glenoaks Boulevard tailgating the cars in front of them; turning the wheel of their car back and forth so it looked like the wheel was coming off; a truck pass me on Pacific Avenue going more than 50 mph to change lanes.

I know the city is aware of the problem, but the solution seems to elude them. So watch out when you get behind the wheel of your car in this city!

Federal government is helping people

The couple who have always done my carpet cleaning told me their story. They remodeled their home a few years back using a new mortgage. Looking forward to their retirement, they stopped extensive advertising as they had so many returning customers. Then the economy failed, their mortgage increased, their daughter had to move back home because she lost her job, and many customers stopped cleaning their carpets regularly.

So here they are, trying desperately to hold on to their home of 30-plus years! Then along came the federal budget with help for such individuals. They were deeply grateful.

I am very pleased to know a small-business couple whose lives and business were saved by federal government assistance. That’s why I worked hard for President Obama!

Thanks, federal government, for helping folks.

Committee taking the wrong course

I appreciate very much the obvious effort that Karen Zimmerman has put forward in her efforts to save the Verdugo Hills Golf Course (“Residents, leaders support golf course,” May 7).
