GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Crescenta Valley and Glendale in CIF prelims: Falcons senior Yumi So will enter today’s CIF Southern Section Division II finals as the top seed in the championship heats of the 100-yard butterfly and 100 backstroke after topping both preliminary heats on Friday at Mount San Antonio College.

So swam the 100 butterfly in 54.11 seconds, breaking her own Division II meet record of 54.42, set at last year’s finals. She swam the backstroke in 55.70, more than a second faster than the nearest runner-up.

Glendale junior Katalina Sher will be seeded eighth in the Division II 200 freestyle after just making the cut for the championship heat with a time of 1:54.92. Sher will compete in the consolation heat of the 100 freestyle as the 11th seed (54.0).

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy in CIF finals: The Tologs’ 200-yard medley relay team of Briana Swinney, Madeline Talt, Emily Carideo and Alex Marquez finished in 1 minute 52.18 to take fourth in the consolation heat at the CIF Southern Section Division I swimming finals at Mount San Antonio College on Friday.

Carideo finished seventh in the consolation heat of the 500 freestyle in 5:10.49.

BOYS’ SWIMMING

Crescenta Valley and Glendale in CIF prelims: Two Falcons relay teams and four individuals advanced to championship heats of today’s CIF Southern Section Division II finals with strong performances in the Division II prelims at Mount San Antonio College on Friday.

Crescenta Valley’s 400-yard freestyle relay team of Tristan Winterhalter, Chris Veselich, Andrew De Jong and Sharif Alaoui cut their Pacific League record time of 3 minutes 12.06 seconds, set just nine days ago, to 3:10.63 to secure the third seed for the finals. The 200-medley relay team of Alaoui, Jason Kim, De Jong and Winterhalter locked up the seventh seed with a time of 1:38.15.

Alaoui qualified for a pair of championship heats on his own. He’ll be seeded seventh in the 100 freestyle (46.74) and eighth in the 200 freestyle (1:44.22).

Winterhalter is seeded seventh in the 50 freestyle (21.68), De Jong is seeded eighth in the 200-individual medley and Kim is seeded eighth in the 100 backstroke (54.40).

The Falcons’ 200-freestyle relay team of Daniel Olson, Martin Rivera, Josh Chi and Veselich qualified for the consolation heat with the 12th-best prelim showing, 1:29.65.
