“I definitely think we underestimated [Summit],” said Falcons senior Baillie Kirker, who hit a two-run home run later in the first inning, which stood as the game-winning hit. “In order to stay in the tournament, we have to play better.”
The round-tripper was Kirker’s 15th of the season and 52nd of her career, putting her into a tie with Crenshaw’s Alia Williams for the most in state history — a record she had broken earlier in the season, but later had surpassed by Williams. Kirker, one of five starters for the Falcons hitting over .500, has assured herself a place in the history books as Williams has played her last game.
For Kirker and a group of standout seniors that include Stephanie Ziemann, Kali Cancelosi and Heather Bacon, the goal of winning a CIF title has gained even more prominence considering the desire to make their final game as Falcons as far off as possible.
“That’s definitely one of the reasons we want it so bad,” Kirker said. “We want to win CIF.”
