She agrees that army can be choosy

This is a follow-up to Jeff Kurtti’s letter (“Salvation Army is too choosy,” May 19). When my granddaughter outgrew her beautiful bunk bed, we called the Salvation Army to donate the bed. We were told they would be happy to get the bed and would pick it up.

On pickup day, the truck and driver came, but would not take the bed. We called their office and was told, “We leave it up to the driver if he wants the items or not.”

Our handyman was delighted to take the beautiful bed.

Also, another pickup day, the Salvation Army would not take anything except any refrigerators we may have.

GCC should take pride in appearance

This is an open letter to the president/superintendent of Glendale Community College: I am an evening student at the college. I am new in California, from back East. The contrast between community colleges I have known and this one is incredible and shocking.

It seems that there is no pride in the appearance of the college. Cigarette butts, bottles, wrappers and food containers are all over the ground. The bathrooms in the evening are disgusting.

Our hard-earned tax dollars are helping pay for the college. One would think some of the money could be spent on making the college be a welcoming, comfortable, attractive showcase for the community.

As the president, I am asking you to address this and rectify the situation. I hope that soon all who attend will start caring about their community college enough to contribute to beautifying it, not trashing it.

Some city salaries are outrageous

The extraordinary annual salaries of certain Glendale employees as reported in $100K Club documentation is just the tip of the Glendale budget iceberg. As with every iceberg, 90% of the Glendale budget problem is hidden beneath the surface, invisible to the public.

The portion of the budget that is beneath the surface includes excessive retirement pensions and benefits. This has been brought to the attention of the City Council many times over the past few years by various messengers whom certain councilmen prefer to denounce as agitators, rather than listening to the content of the messages.
