Christian Bergman (St. Francis High, 2006) junior starting pitcher, UC Irvine baseball: The right-hander, who was selected as the All-Area Player of the Year in 2006, and sixth-seeded Irvine saw their season conclude Sunday with a 4-1 loss to Virginia in the championship game of the Irvine Regional.
Bergman, who helped the Anteaters capture the Big West Conference championship this season, didn’t appear in Sunday’s contest.
However, Bergman took the loss in Saturday’s 5-0 loss to Virginia. Bergman (9-3) started off well, as he retired 11 batters he faced.
Bergman then ran into trouble, allowing a pair of runs in the fifth and three in the sixth.
Bergman, who helped St. Francis advance to the CIF Southern Section Division II championship game in 2006, went 5 2/3 innings.
He allowed four earned runs, struck out seven and yielded eight hits during a 102-pitch performance.
Bergman posted an earned-run average of 3.50 in 15 appearances. He struck out 66 in 97 2/3 innings.
Kevin Ibarra (Glendale Community College, 2008) junior first baseman/designated hitter, University of LaVerne baseball: Ibarra helped the Leopards finish the season at 23-16 and 12-9 in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference this season. He hit .233 (10 for 43) with one home run and nine runs batted in.
Ibarra also contributed two doubles and scored five runs. He competed in 19 games, starting 11.
Ibarra didn’t make an error this season, as he finished with 40 putouts and four assists.
Lauren Chramosta (Crescenta Valley High, 2005) senior distance runner, UC Irvine track and field: Chramosta finished 27th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, as she clocked 11 minutes 27.75 seconds on Saturday at the NCAA West Regional at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field.
Chramosta had earlier helped the Anteaters finish sixth at the Big West Conference Championships, which were held May 16 at Irvine’s Anteater Stadium. At that meet, Chramosta set a school record in the steeplechase with a mark of 10:36.39.
