“I think he’s left an example of hard work and dedication,” the coach says. “You shoot for a goal and you work for it. I think the freshman and sophomore kids this year have seen that. Hopefully, they learn from it.”

One of those freshman is Mike Duncan. Duncan ran varsity cross-country and track this year, as he looks to have and hopes for a bright future with the Falcons.

“It’s good to follow someone like [Torres]. ...He’s one of the only guys I could see myself working to be like as a senior,” Duncan compliments. “He was always the one there to push me in all my races.”

After today, Evans will move his program on without Torres.

Duncan and Co. will look to write their own storied tales.

And Torres will move on to different challenges at UCLA, leaving a clutter of accomplishments and a legacy of tenacity. But, while today will mark the last flight of this Falcon, he says he’ll never leave Crescenta Valley behind.

“I’m always gonna be a Falcon,” he says. “I think I’m always gonna be a part of CV.”
