MAILBAG: Lawmaker should resign for the voters

July 18, 2009

My assemblyman, Paul Krekorian, has done an incredibly bad job for the last five years of representing the working families of Glendale, Burbank and surrounding communities. His tax-and-spend record is almost second to none. He should get a medal for leading California down the debt path.

And now, only seven months after he swore to represent us in the this district, he decides the grass is greener as a member of the Los Angeles City Council. How can he believe that winning “higher” office in Los Angeles is going to actually help families in Glendale and Burbank?

I dare say that Paul is only looking after Paul — higher salary, less commute, bigger office, and the ability to walk away from our state chaos he helped create.

Paul — resign and show you care about the voters for once in your life. Go ahead and keep climbing the ladder, but don’t look down because your record is behind you!

As chairwoman of the Republican Party of Los Angeles County, I will not seek the 43rd Assembly seat, but have committed 100% of my efforts toward electing a common sense Assembly member who dares to say “no” to big labor, big taxes, big spending and big lobbyists.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Barnett was the 2008 Republican nominee for the 43rd Assembly District.

Drinking water should be conserved

A shortage of drinking water is of concern and has caused much discussion among every sector of the population. A Glendale News-Press article focused on several schools that seeking recycled water to use for their landscapes (“Schools seek recycled water, July 15).

These schools currently use drinking water for the landscaped areas and are seeking to use recycled water. The scarcity of drinking water is an obvious concern; however, there is plenty of recycled water that can be used for landscapes only.

The California State Water Resources Control Board will vote in September for an $800,000 grant for this project. As a resident of Glendale I am concerned that there is a scarcity of drinking water.
