MAILBAG: Health care starts at the bottom

I began hiking the Verdugos in the early 1950s. I have never seen a mountain lion. Other areas yes, but not the Verdugos. I have, though, seen many bobcats, some that I took a second look at as they were quite large and had a longer tail then just a bobcat. I have never seen mountain lion tracks either, and one must remember that lions do not show claw marks like big dogs do.

The deer population is alive and well (they are eating my roses, ivy and tomato plants, regularly), as lions do love to eat them. They eat about a deer a week. That adds up to a lot of deer.

Never seeing lions in the early years when they had much easier access to the Verdugos due to lots of open space in La Crescenta, Foothill Boulevard was not that busy, and there was no 210 Freeway. This makes me wonder why there would be lions today with much harder access.

I would love to see an actual picture of a lion in the Verdugos, as I have seen them in the San Gabriel foothills like La Cañada and Sierra Madre. A “sighting” does not prove they are there.

Could Molano just please go away?

Is there any way the Glendale City Council and Glendale News-Press could get a restraining order against Herbert Molano?

Every time I tune in to the rebroadcast of the City Council meetings, I see Molano speaking! Every time I attend a political meeting or a council meeting, I see Molano, who, by the way, is not even a resident of Glendale.

I often see him driving around Glendale apparently looking for something to criticize.

Please spare us from Molano and his trumped-up criticisms!

Assemblyman is just bettering himself

I agree with the News-Press’ editorial (“Lawmaker undeserving of calls for resignation,” July 25) about Assemblyman Paul Krekorian.

He is an able legislator working the system as best he can to rise up in the Legislature. A moderate Democrat who should perform well as he rises up the ladder. There’s nothing wrong with trying to better yourself and do well in higher office.
