Planners are aware of several previously approved landscape plans that may need to be tweaked to incorporate drought-tolerant plants in light of the water restrictions, he said.
Councilwoman Laura Friedman, a vocal supporter of xeriscaping, provided a similar response to Danielian at Tuesday’s meeting.
“Lawns are not the only beautiful thing that people can have in their front yard,” she said. “As environmentalists, one of the things we have to do is educate the public and show them that there are other living plant materials that can be used for this climate that are just beautiful and don’t need to be watered even three days a week.”
But on Thursday, Najarian urged artificial turf as another viable option.
And Wood, who said he was confused when he heard it was banned, said he simply wants to be able to keep the turf, which he saw as a “green” alternative.
